Pietranera

A SMALL TOWN BY THE SEA

A small coastal village, Pietranera is full of little gems to discover in the town itself and its close surroundings. Here is our to-do list to tick off as you explore Pietranera, located between land and sea.

A RELAXING DAY ON PIETRANERA MARINE BEACH
This beach is in the heart of the village, alongside the road to Cap Corse. Pietranera's small beach is no less attractive than other Cap Corse beaches. Highly-sought out by locals, this is a remarkable site with its submerged rocks and grey pebble beach. It is clearly distinct from Marana beach, and is very unique. It features crystal clear water, like most Cap Corse beaches.
Its calm atmosphere is ideal for a relaxing afternoon by the sea.

ICE HOUSES CIRCULAR HIKE
Active visitors have the option of hiking in the Bastia heights. This hike offers a splendid view of the city of Bastia and Elba Island. Hiking along the crests, walkers will encounter two ice houses, including that of Bocca Pruna. These stone buildings were used to store ice to supply Bastia's needs during the summer. This hike is a full-day commitment. For an easier option, start from the village of Cardo, allowing you to complete the hike in 3 1/2 hours.

FORCI WATERFALL VISIT
Forci waterfall is the cool burst you need in summer. Located in Lota valley, this water feature is particularly prized for its clear, cool water. From Pietranera, it takes less than 10 minutes' drive to get there.
However, depending on the season and drought conditions, there may not be enough water for swimming.

ADMIRE THE SUNSET FROM BASTIA BELVEDERE
What's better than admiring the sunset after a busy day? The best option is from Bastia Belvedere (Affaccatoghju in Corsican). It takes about 15 minutes to drive to this viewpoint, located above Pietranera and Palagaccio. From this nonpareil viewpoint, admire the darkening sky as it shifts from orange to pink hues.
In the daytime, this belvedere is a starting point for a number of hiking trails and mountain bike rides.

DINE BY THE SEA
Back in Pietranera, you have the option of dining right on the beach, specifically at La Baraque restaurant. Enjoy their well-appointed terrace, while dining on a selection of local catches enhanced by subtle pairings inspired by the Corsican gastronomic heritage.
